From the heart of Arusha, MY ROOTS FOUNDATION empowers youths, single mothers, and marginalized communities through education, skills training, and initiatives that break cycles of poverty.

We also connect local and global volunteers to meaningful community projects—from skills workshops to mentorship programs—making every act of service personal, purposeful, and transformative.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers can choose to participate in one or more of the following programs:

Youth Skills
Mentorship

Guide young people in developing vocational and life skills that empower them to start businesses, find employment, and achieve economic independence.

Community Education Programs

Support educational initiatives for youths and single mothers, including literacy classes, digital skills training, and awareness workshops.

Women & Single Mother Empowerment

Assist in projects that provide training, resources, and mentorship to single mothers and women, helping them gain confidence and financial stability.

Community Outreach & Development

Participate in outreach programs that improve local communities—ranging from health awareness campaigns to cultural preservation and social initiatives.

Accommodation & Meals

Volunteers will be accommodated in safe and comfortable hostels located near their respective project sites. The accommodation package includes:

Shared rooms with fellow volunteers

Three nutritious meals per day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner)

Amenities

Clean bedding, access to clean water, and basic laundry services

We are working towards establishing our own volunteer house in the near future to enhance the volunteer experience.

Program Fees

Our fee structure is designed to be affordable while ensuring the sustainability of our programs. All fees contribute directly to accommodation, meals, project support, and community initiatives.

Important Things To Note

→ All programs attract a Registration Fee of US$299 in addition to the Program Fee. This covers all pre-departure support services.
→ A 5% international banking fee is added at point of payment.
→ Independent volunteers under the age of 18 will have an additional cost of US$80 per week added to their program fee to cover extra logistical support provided by the local team, including transportation to and from placement each day and airport drop-off.
→ Additional things to budget for include: Visa, flights, travel insurance (mandatory), vaccinations, criminal background check, transport to and from your placement each day and return to the airport when your program finishes.
Recommended spending money: Volunteers in Tanzania generally find US$75–100 per week to be sufficient for expenses.

  • Vaccinations and medical expenses

Additional surcharges may apply for specialized programs:

  • Medical Support: $100/week for supervision and materials
  • Animal Welfare: One-time $100 donation to support shelter operations

Fundraising

You can help us raise funds to support our various projects. Every donation, no matter the size, makes a significant impact on the lives of the women we serve.

Assisting in writing proposals can help us secure necessary funding from a variety of sources, enabling us to expand our reach and effectiveness.

Get directly involved in our work by participating in projects such as crafting reusable sanitary pads, providing skills training, or taking part in home visits to support vulnerable groups. Your hands-on involvement will have a lasting impact on the communities we serve.
